Belle Époque (1992) is a Spanish film which was awarded with an Oscar as the Best Foreign Language film and 9 Goya Prize.
Set in 1931, this is a romantic story that takes place  some  months before the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.
Fernando, a Spanish soldier, deserts from the army becuase of his political ideas. He takes refuge in the country and Manolo, a painter who dropped out of society for the same reasons, helps him. Manolo has four daughters,  Rocío, Violeta, Clara y Luz. When the daughters visit their old father, Fernando falls in love with each of them. He likes all of them but he can not decide which one to love.
This film is a celebration of love, passion and youth and it perfectly reproduces the historical and cultural context.
The famous Spanish scriptwriter  Rafael Azcon wrote the script of this film and the cast is excellent: Penélope Cruz, Miriam Díaz-Aroca, Ariadna Gil, Jorge Sanz, Maribel Verdú.
For its elegant style, the high fidelity in reproducing the historical context, the irony and the critic to the society, Belle Époque can be considered one of the best Spanish film of all times.
